The Man and the Shadow

Share story The man in charge walked into the room. Everyone stared at him in the mirror. The reflection nodded toward the window. His eyes closed then he opened a door. The reflection smiled and spoke softly. It is not possible to know whether he asleep. Suddenly a voice called from the darkness. A hand clutched onto a wall. The voice called again from the silence. A scream tore into the blackness. Suddenly the man ran toward the floor then someone screamed. A shadow flickered beneath the ceiling. Nobody reacted when a hand pushed deep through the man. The shadow began shifting downward into the floor. A figure emerged from the wall and climbed down. A voice whispered that the door was empty. He looked at the door while staring at his shadow. The voice screamed out in the air. The shadow began moving toward the man into the floor. A second figure descended into the air. A figure turned around and the shadow flickered. Then it began dissolving into the floor. He did not move.
